Industrial automation networks are becoming more interconnected and network security is now an extremely high priority.
Moxa, a leading provider of industrial networking solutions, has recently added an addition to its Gigabit-performance cyber security family: the EDR-810 series. The EDR-810’s integration of security and networking functionality into a single device saves extra deployment cost and effort.
This new product is an industrial multiport secure router with Firewall/NAT/VPN and managed L2 switching functions, which allow the EDR-810 to transmit data efficiently while protecting the network and critical devices from cyber attacks.
One simple application these units can be used for is hiding duplicate IP Addresses within a network. For example, if you are a machine builder and sell multiple machines for an installation you may want to set each machine up with the same IP addresses for the PLC's, Touch Panels, Drives etc.
However if you want to put these onto the customers network you normally need to change each IP so they do not conflict. Using the EDR-810 you can create a router lookup table so the customer can have any IP address they want, while hidden behind the router you can have any IP you want.
