How to Connect to an Allen-Bradley PLC

The purpose of this video is to provide a 3-step example of how to connect the ioLogik E1200 Series device with an Allen-Bradley PLC by EtherNet/IP protocol.

Moxa’s ioLogik E1200 Series provides the ideal solution when you need I/O expansion for your PLC. In addition to EtherNet/IP, Moxa’s ioLogik E1200 Series supports six different protocols-including Modbus, RESTful API, and SNMP-to support the needs of both OT & IT experts.

You can also download the Technical Note below which provides a step-by-step example of how to connect the ioLogik E1200 series device with an Allen-Bradley PLC by EtherNet/IP protocol. In this example, the Allen-Bradley PLC is the EtherNet/IP Scanner and the ioLogik E1200 is the adapter.

There are two sections in this document, the first section explains how to install the ioLogik E1200 series’ EDS files in the RSLogix 5000, and the second section explains how to connect the ioLogik E1200 with the Allen-Bradley PLC.

All models in the ioLogik E1200 series are built with two embedded Ethernet switch ports that allow information to flow to another local Ethernet device or connect to the next ioLogik in the daisy-chain. Applications such as factory automation, security and surveillance systems, and tunnel monitoring, can make use of daisy-chained Ethernet for building multi-drop I/O networks over standard Ethernet cables. Many industrial automation users are familiar with the multi-drop configuration typically used in fieldbus applications.

By daisy-chaining ioLogik E1200 units, you can increases the number of connections between machines and panels, eliminate the cost of buying separate Ethernet switches, and greatly reduce the cost of labor and cabling. For example, if a production facility contains 700 stations (20 points per station), you can reduce the total implementation cost by 15% due to reduced wiring requirements.
