The Importance of UL/CSA Cable

This month at ECS we're focusing on the importance of UL/CSA cable approvals.

If you are exporting machinery to the USA, Canada or most parts of South America then it's simple … you should be using UL / CSA cables. Why? because in America they have different fire regulations, and to meet their requirements as outlined in NFPA 79 cables must be tested and certified by UL laboratories.Certified cables are marked with UL Approval Numbers and "E" Certificate Numbers so inspectors can easily check if suspect cable has been approved. All cables including Control, VSD, App Wire, Data Cables, and even Ethernet must have UL markings on the sheath.

If you are exporting machinery to the USA, Canada or most parts of South America then it's simple … you should be using UL / CSA cables. Why? because in America they have different fire regulations, and to meet their requirements as outlined in NFPA 79 cables must be tested and certified by UL laboratories.

Certified cables are marked with UL Approval Numbers and "E" Certificate Numbers so inspectors can easily check if suspect cable has been approved. All cables including ControlVSDApp WireData Cables, and even Ethernet must have UL markings on the sheath.

Failure to comply with UL Regulations can result with two outcomes: Either the machine will need to be rewired in the United States, or the machine will be sent back to New Zealand to be rewired with cables that comply. We have seen NZ customers have to do both in the past.
